Amid contract speculation, Barcelona’s sporting director, Deco, reached out to Frenkie de Jong and assured that the club is actively working on retaining him and other players until 2026. The Dutch national team star, a pivotal figure since his 2019 move to Barcelona, had faced injury and transfer rumours to Manchester United in May. Deco confirmed De Jong’s commitment to Barcelona and the validity of his contract until 2026.
According to Fabrizio Romano, he told MD, “I see Frenkie de Jong enjoying his life at Barça”. “He’s happy here, he’s playing top-level football and he feels very good — at the end, it’s always the player deciding”. “He’s under contract until 2026 and we want him to stay for a long time”.
Deco also discussed Frenkie De Jong’s contract along with those of other prominent Barcelona players, including Gavi, Pedri, Araújo, and Gündogan. He emphasized the club’s commitment to keeping these players in Barcelona for an extended duration.
He noted, “I have texted Frenkie de Jong’s agents to introduce myself. We haven’t touched on a new deal yet but we want him to stay at Barça for many years, it’s clear, It’s the same for Pedri, Gavi, Araújo, Gündogan, that’s the plan”.
Barcelona has encountered significant difficulties in fostering positive relationships with Frenkie De Jong and other players, particularly amid ongoing rumours about contract negotiations.
