Fire engulfed a Mega Manufacturing plastics company in Ilupeju, Lagos state

In the early hours of Saturday, September 23, 2023, at about 5 a.m., a destructive fire engulfed a plastics company situated in Ilupeju, Lagos State.

Adeseye Margaret, the Director of Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, issued an official statement through the Lagos State Government’s official Twitter account, referred to as “X,” and the statement read,

“The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service is currently fighting an industrial fire at Mega Plastic, Ilupeju bypass, Mushin, Lagos. The emergency alert was received at 07:26 hours on Saturday.

“The Firefighters at Ilupeju, Bolade and Alausa Fire Stations are already at the scene. The storage and factory sections of the petrochemical company were affected as the fire was being curtailed. No injuries or deaths have been recorded so far. More updates to follow soon”

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, known as LASTMA, has also issued an official statement addressing their efforts to combat the devastating fire incident.

This statement was released by Adebayo Taofiq, the Director of the Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department at LASTMA, who stated, “Operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and other emergency responders at early morning today (Saturday, 23rd of September”

According to Traffic Officer Olaosebikan “Immediately we arrived at the scene of the industrial fire, we quickly informed other emergency responders particularly the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Services and the Nigerian Police”

“While the causes of industrial fire could not be immediately ascertained, Lastma Olaosebikan disclosed that priliminary investigation revealed that the storage and factory section of the petrochemical company were seriously affected by the fire outbreak”.
