Gbadebo Rhodes Vivour: Challenges Tribunal Verdicts, Heads to Supreme Court

The Labour Party’s gubernatorial candidate in Lagos, Gbadebo Rhodes Vivour, has issued a response following the reaffirmation of the victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the Lagos state Governorship Election Petition Tribunal.

In his statement, Gbadebo Rhodes Vivour invoked the words of one of America’s founding fathers, Thomas Jefferson, emphasizing that the gravest threat to freedom is a government that disregards the Constitution.

However, the Independent National Electoral Commission had officially declared the APC candidate as the winner.

The 40-year-old LP candidate proceeded to appeal to the court to contest the victory of the APC candidate, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, in the election that took place on March 18, 2023.

On Monday, in September 2023, the tribunal court in Ikeja dismissed the petitions filed by the Labour Party candidate, which had sought to disqualify Babajide Sanwo-Olu on grounds of electoral malpractice and other electoral irregularities.

Gbadebo has instructed his legal team to take the case to the Supreme Court, as he believes that appellate judges are fallible and can make errors in their judgments.

He also urged his supporters to remain steadfast in their pursuit of justice, reminding them to abide by the laws of the nation.

Gbadebo Vivour reassured his supporters of the importance of their unwavering backing and encouraged them to continue advocating for justice.
