Unknown gunmen have abducted retired Major General RC Duru in the Orji district of Owerri North Local Government Area of Imo State, located in Eastern Nigeria.
According to IntelRegion on X, “The Major-General was driving his black Mercedes Benz ML jeep when he was ambushed by the gunmen. The kidnappers, reportedly four individuals in a Toyota Sienna, also took his vehicle.
“Efforts are underway to locate the kidnappers and secure the release of the retired General. Security in the South-East region has deteriorated, with frequent attacks and incidents. The Nigerian government has accused the pro-Biafra group, IPOB, of being responsible for the attacks, but the group denies involvement”.
Moreover, the southeastern region of Nigeria has been observing and drawing lessons from the security challenges in the northern part of the country, which have cast a shadow of apprehension due to the prevalence of abductions and violence.
The governors of the Eastern states are unwaveringly committed to ensuring that their region is shielded from the threats of kidnapping, extortion, and the general insecurity that plagues their citizens.
In a significant development, Nigerian security agencies are currently engaged in efforts to secure the release of Major General RC Duru (retired), who was abducted.
