CIES Football Observatory has released a report estimating the most valued and expensive club in the world. Following Chelsea’s contributions during the transfer windows with expensive signings, Manchester United tops the position of the most expensive squad alongside Chelsea, Manchester City in the premier league and Paris St Germain in Ligue 1.

Manchester United squad cost $1234 Million dated 11th September which includes transfer fees (including add-ons regardless of effective payment and paying loans.)

Manchester United alongside Chelsea, Manchester City, and Paris St Germain are top tier club that has spent billions in signing and assembling a squad.

Furthermore, Manchester United also spent multi-millions of dollars in defence and forward positions and is regarded club that invested hugely in such positions.

The reports by CIES Football Observatory explained the most expensive clubs that heavily invested in the Saudi Pro League and the top clubs that spent humongous amounts on defenders, goalkeepers, midfielders, and strikers.

Saudi side Al-Hilal (18th) is the club from outside the European big-5 that has invested the most on transfer indemnities to assemble its squad (€382m), ahead of Leicester City (26th, €281m) and Ajax (32nd, €236m). By position, the biggest spenders are Liverpool for goalkeepers (€73m), Manchester United for defenders (€383m), Real Madrid for midfielders (€447m) and Paris St-Germain for strikers (€557m) – CIES Football Observatory
