The Lagos State Police Relation Officer, (PRO) Benjamin Hundeyin advised Nigerians on how to share explicit content like images and videos. Nigerian citizens have witnessed a surge in leaked explicit content on social media which resulted in potential relationship conflicts, trust issues, immense emotional distress and anxiety.
The PRO advised the Nigerian to cover at least their face or any identification mark that will display their identity ensuring that video calls can be recorded or screenshot.
Benjamin further stated that sharing explicit images with someone can result in extortion and blackmailing adding that trusting no one is a great precaution.
In his statement on X page, he said, “If you must send nudes, at least do one-view or cover your face or any other identification mark. And do not forget that video calls can be screen shot/recorded. For others, it is a clandestine recording of their intimate moments, of course without consent. I have honestly lost count of people, sometimes notable ones, approaching me about someone somewhere blackmailing and extorting them with their nudes. Trust no one. Take adequate precautions. Trust your instincts too. And do not forget to reach incb.npf.gov.ng in the unfortunate event you fall victim of this”.
