Professor Steve Hanke, an expert in Applied Economics at Johns Hopkins University in Maryland, USA, acknowledged that Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu presented a forged diploma to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
In his tweet, he posted, “#NGAWatch: Now that we all know that Pres. Tinubu submitted a forged diploma to the INEC, I’m wondering what else he’s forged?”
Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s certificate and identity controversy dates back to the 1990s. However, it was in 2023 that Nigerian investigative journalist David Hundeyin shed new light on the matter, particularly during and after the presidential election held in February 2023.
After the election, Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Nigeria, pledged to uncover the longstanding mystery that had been shrouding the country’s political landscape.
He went to Chicago State University for the academic documents of the Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Initially, the university rejected his request, saying that only a court order could compel them to disclose Tinubu’s academic documents.
However, the court finally ruled in favor of Atiku, granting his request to access Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s academic records from Chicago State University.
The debate among Nigerians regarding the legitimacy and accuracy of Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s certificate continues, with questions about whether it has been forged or remains genuine.
